This template substitutes for the html markup sequence  — , i.e. a long dash("—") preceded and followed by a non-breaking space. This template is used when you want something a lot stronger than a middot, which can be used with the middot template, {{·}}. For something a little less strong, try the {{ndash}} template, which shows the slightly shorter ndash ("–").
