"Thomas Barnes" may refer to:

Disambiguation : 1630 Immigrants to New England

At least four four notable immigrants of the 1630's settled in adjacent counties in early New England. Many genealogies freely confuse the several Thomas Barneses of Connecticut. Because these men immigrated from England, probably in the 1630s, and lived in colonial Connecticut in adjacent counties, it is quite difficult to keep the facts concerning them separate, but they are indeed unrelated individuals. To add to this confusion, there were at least two other Thomas Barneses in the nearby Massachusetts Colony who were alive at about the same time (Trescott, 1907, p. 4-5).[1]

There were three Thomas Barnes that came from England to America previous to 1638 known as Thomas Barnes of Hartford, Thomas Barnes of New Haven, and Thomas Barnes of Hingham; who were ancestors of three large branches of Barnes Families in America.

  1. Thomas Barnes (1610-1690) - Thomas of Hartford Founders Monument, Pequot War and then Farmington with correct spouses and children attached. 1st wife executed for witchcraft in Hartford CT.
  2. Thomas Barnes (1591-1689) of New Haven then Middleton - See Barnes-775
  3. Thomas Barnes (1636-1679) - Early settler of Marlborough, Massachusetts.
