Thomas Best was born 20 June 1799 in Seven Hills, New South Wales, Australia to George Best (c1763-1836) and Martha Chamberlain (c1778-1833) and died 26 January 1874 "Tangmangaroo", Gunning, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Mary Beckett (1800-1857) 16 February 1818 in Saint John's, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
After the death of Ellen Reynolds (c1833-1866) (Mrs Ellen Buckley) on 23 Dec 1866, he was charged with her murder (it was alleged that he kicked her) and was acquitted.
