Obituary
A link with the early days of the Gilgandra district has been severed by the death on Thursday night last of Mr. Thomas Collison. Deceased was born in the Windsor district and came here with his parents at a very early age, and had spent most of his 80 years in the district.
Deceased's father, the late Mr. Jack Collison first settled at Breelong and later conducted the hotel located on the eastern side of the river crossing at Gilgandra. In those days he also had a large cattle run, but was attracted to Gulgong in the height of the gold rush days.
His family remained at Gilgandra, where the late Mr. Thomas Collison married a Miss Mary McKeown 64 years ago. They celebrated their Golden Wedding four years ago. Mrs. Collison survives her husband, and there also is a family of four daughters and three sons, viz.: Mrs. H. Heiler, Neutral Bay; Mrs. Young, Bondi; Mrs. E. S. Lewis, Imperial Hotel, Gilgandra; Mrs. Furness, Gilgandra; Mr. J. Collison, Gilgandra; Mr. H. Collison, Gilgandra; and Mr. E. Collison, Rose Bay. The late Mr. Thomas Collison. was well known throughout the district, and at one time was the owner of "Eringanerin." Disposing of that property he went to Tyronne, and there conducted the hotel for a num ber of years. He later had interests in a property at Quambone. Since he had resided in Gilgandra. Deceased passed away suddenly, only taking ill on the Saturday prior to his death.
The funeral on Friday afternoon was very largely attended by town and district residents. A service was held at St. Ambrose's Church by the Rev. J. L. McAuley, who also officiated at the graveside, in the Church of England section of the Gilgandra cemetery.
Deceased is also survived by two sisters and three brothers, viz.: Mrs T. Smith, Coonalbarabran; Mrs. McLean, Sydney; Mr. Jack Collison, Parramatta; and Messrs. James and George Collison, Gilgandra.
Funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. A. H. Ross.
