Thomas Day, Jr was born 23 March 1662 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts to Thomas Day (1636-1711) and Sarah Cooper (1642-1726) and died 14 January 1729 Colchester, New London County, Connecticut of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Merrick (1655-1743) 28 January 1685 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
Farm Tenancy
Soon after his wedding in Springfield, Massachusetts, Thomas and his young bride relocated to Colchester, Connecticut where he leased a farm.
One of JP's "Farmers"; paid 115 shillings? pounds? for 24 contract years; rental career from 1684 to 1702, after leasing 5 acres in 3rd division in joint tenancy with his father, 5 acres in Chicopee field, and 16 acres near Black Pond, Day rented a farm on Apr 11, 1691, in joint tenancy with John Mirrick; farm contained barn, 2 cows, housing and 50 acres of land (et acres of planting ground and 15 acres of meadow), annual rent graded from 15 to 19 and alll applicable rates; Day held lease until 1700, his brother Samuel replacing Mirrick as coveant in 1698, on May 10 1697. , Thomas and Samuel Day also leased JP's 1/2 interest in the sawmill at Sixteen Acres for "3 in money and sawing", Day to pay for ordinary, JP for extraordinary, repairs.
Field worker, carter, logger, cobbler, Credited in 1680's for "Loggs for my Saw mill... 525 feet at 15 s per 100 feet... by 10 days worke at my mill dam... 1 pair of shoes.. mending Hannah's shoes;" in 1696 received labor credits amounting to 20 pounds, 13 s, 9 d.
