Pedigree
Thomas is claimed to be the illegitimate son of Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer (1661-1724) (mother unknown). This link is the subject of much debate. There is no official record that Thomas in the son of Lord Robert Harley. There is no official record of his birth or his parents. But in the diary of his granddaughter, Elizabeth Harley, she states that Thomas is the illegitimate son of Lord Robert Harley (however, said diary can no longer be used as evidence, since it seems to have disappeared). There is also a Thomas Harley on the will of Lord Robert. However, there is no proof that this is a reference to this Thomas.
