Thomas Southworth was born circa 1617 in Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands to Edward Southworth (c1592-1622) and Alice Carpenter (1583-1670) and died 8 December 1669 Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Reynor (1618-1708) 1 September 1641 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States.

Biography

William Bradford (1590-1657)'s second wife, Alice Carpenter Southworth, came to Plymouth Colony aboard the Anne in July 1623 following the death of her first husband, Edward Southworth. Alice's sons from her first marriage, Constant and Thomas, arrived in Plymouth sometime after 1627 and presumably lived with their mother and stepfather.

Alice Carpenter was the widow of Edward Southworth, whom she married in Leyden on 28 May 1613, mother of Thomas and Constant, born in Leyden.

A brother of Constant Southworth, Thomas Southworth was probably born at Leiden ca. 1616-20, and he came to Plymouth sometime after 1627, most likely living with his mother, Alice, and her husband, Gov. William Bradford. He married 1 September 1641 Elizabeth Reyner, daughter of Rev. John Reyner [sic], and they had one child, Elizabeth, who married Joseph Howland (PCR 2:23). He died 8 December 1669 (PCR 8:32). His will, dated 18 November 1669, proved 1 March 1669/70, named his wife and his daughter Elizabeth Howland, and her husband, Joseph, and left gifts to Thomas Faunce, Deborah Morton, William Churchill, and "my brother Constant Southworth" (MD 18:185-86). The Thomas Southworth who came to Plymouth should not be confused with his uncle, Thomas Southworth, who stayed behind in Leiden.
