Tropic is a town in Garfield County, Utah, United States, along Utah Scenic Byway 12. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 508. Tropic was founded in 1891.

Geography[]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.4 square miles (21.8 km²), of which, 8.4 square miles (21.7 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.

Climate[]

The climate in this area has mild differences between highs and lows, and there is adequate rainfall year round.

There are 206 housing units at an average density of 24.6 per square mile (9.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.06% White, 0.39% Native American, 1.38% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. There are no African Americans, Asians, or Pacific Islanders. 2.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 160 households out of which 41.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.8% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.9% are non-families. 13.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.18 and the average family size is 3.52.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 100 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $42,500, and the median income for a family is $44,125. Males have a median income of $32,500 versus $22,222 for females.
