Prince Vasili Mikhailovich of Vereya and Belozero, the Bold (Russian: Василий Михайлович Удалый князь Верейский) was the eldest son of Mikhail Andreevich, Prince of Verey.
Together with his father, he participated in campaigns against the Khanate of Kazan (1468-1469), in a campaign against Novgorod (1471), when he besieged the town of Demon, against Akhmad Khan who was besieging the city of Aleksin came to Alexin (1472), and in campaigns against Novgorod in 1478 and 1480. - in the Novgorod campaign.
He married Maria Palaiologina, the niece of Sofia Palaiologina, the Grand Prince's wife.
However, a court intrigue put an end to his life at the court of Ivan III of Moscow. In 1483, Grand Prince's daughter-in-law, Elena of Moldavia.(wife of Ivan Ivanovich) gave birth to his first grand-son. The Grand Duke wanted to give her a necklace as present, but found out that, without his knowledge and permission, the same precious necklace had been given by his wife Sofia Palaiologina to her niece, Maria Palaiologina. when she had married Vasili Mikhailovich. In anger, the Grand Prince ordered away all Vasili's properties as well as his wife's dowry confiscated.
Fearing for his life Vasili Mikhailovich fled to Lithuania with his wife. He was well received in Lithuania where he was awarded the title of Prince of Lübeck. The same year, Ivan III invaded the territories of Mikhail Andreyevich, Vasili's father, as well those of Mikhail Borisovich of Tver accusing them of having helped the fugitives.
In 1493 Sofia Palaiologina was able to convince the Grand Prince to pardon Vasili Mikhailovich and to grant him the permission to return home. However, as Vasili Mikhailovich did not trust Ivan III, he did not take advantage of this permission.
Being unpleased with this decision, in 1494 Ivan III signed an agreeement with the Grand Duke Alexander of Lithuania in which the latter promises to prevent Vasili Mikhailovich to leave Lithuania until his death.
