Vasilko Yaropolkovich, Prince of Shumsk, was born 1125 to Yaropolk II Vladimirovich of Kiev (1082-1139) and Yelena of Ossetia (c1100-c1150) and died 1182 of unspecified causes. He married Salyusha Piast (c1150-c1180) .
He is mentioned for the first time in the annals, 26 years after the death of Yaropolk Vladimirovich. In the mid-twelfth century, neither of them was involved in large-scale internecine strife. In 1165 he defeated the Polovtsians on Roshi (in the chronicles in Rus). In the spring of 1167, according to the order and in the interest of Mstislav Izyaslavich, he occupied Kiev. In 1171 he was defeated by the Polovtsians, allied with Gleb Yurevich.
Vasilko was Prince of Shumsk in 1168-1180. In 1172 he married Salyusha Piast daughter of Boleslaw IV the Curly.
