Biography
Walter Selby McDonald was born 17 August 1885 in Crookwell, New South Wales, Australia to John Robert McDonald (1864-1944) and Annie Laurie McGuiness (1857-1940) and died 10 January 1909 "Yarranoo" Binda, New South Wales, Australia of drowning.
Our Crookwell correspondent writes: — News was brought to town this (Thursday) morning of the death of a young man named Selby McDonald, who was drowned at a crossing at Yaranoo, near Binda. It appears that the young man was returning from Bigga, driving a sulky. When he reached the crossing on the road at Yaranoo, a sort of sandy creek, the flood water from the recent rains was about two feet high. A Chinaman crossed in his cart just a little ahead of him. Apparently the sulky was upset, and McDonald was releasing the horse, when he was swept away and drowned.
Note
Some researchers have given him the wife and children of his uncle, Walter Sydney McDonald (1880-1961). Another source claims that his death in 1909 did not prevent him marrying Dorothy Joyce Doggett (1906-1992) in 1931, when she actually married his first cousin, Walter Sylvester McDonald (1906-1970).
