Obituary

Mr. Walter Ford

Quite a gloom was cast over the Peelwood district, on Tuesday of last week when the sad news became known of the death of Mr. Walter Thomas Ford, of "Wangalo," Peelwood.

The late Mr. Ford, who was 73 years of age, had been in failing health for the past two years, but the end came as a great shock to his family and his many friends.

He lived the whole of his life at Peelwood, where he followed grazing pursuits. He was most popular with all who knew him. A staunch Catholic, he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

The late Mr. Ford took a keen interest in all branches of sport conducted in the district and was for many years Secretary of the old Peelwood Racing Club. He was also a keen follower of cricket and hockey.

He is survived by a wldow and five daughters, who mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.

The daughters are Mrs. A. K. Druett (May), of Binda; Mrs. R. Watts (Florrie), of Orange; Mrs. McDonald (Mary), of The Diamond ; and Misses Agnes and Gwen, of Peelwood. One daughter predeceased him by many years.

Four sisters and two brothers also survive. Sisters are Mrs. L. Ford (Lidcombe), Mrs. Belcher (Lakemba), Mrs. Nosworthy (Pennant Hills); Miss Rose Ford (Hurstville). Messrs. [George] and John Ford, of Peelwood and Kandos, respectively, are the brothers.

The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place at Peelwood, the remains being laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery beside those of his daughter. Rev. Father Tiernan conducted the burial service.

The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. A. McGrath, undertaker, of Orange.

Many beautiful wreaths were placed on the casket. Among these were noted those from the following: Loving Wife; May Sandy and family; Flo; Rennie and grandchildren; Mary and grandchildren; Agnes, Gwen and Keith ; George, Annie, Len and Max; Luke, Millie and family; Bina and family; Albert Ford; Clem, Mary and family; Herbert and Beattie; M. Hall and family; all at "Floraville '; all at "Cordillera"; all at "Spring Valey" ; Peelwood Red Cross Society; A: McGrath.
