Wildrut von Hohenwart was born circa 985 to Rapoto IV. von Inn- und Norital (?-bef1017) and Hemma von Babenberg (?-?) .
This family is poorly documented. It seems that Wildrut and her brother Ortulf had already taken religious vows when her brother Konrad, who had succeeded their father, died at an early age. Ortulf and Wildrut then turned the ancestral Castle Hohenwart into Monastery Hohenwart, but her niece seem to have inherited property as well.
