William Adair of Kilhilt was born 1418 in Kilhilt Tower, Portpatrick, Wigtownshire, Scotland to Niegel Adair (1392-1475) and Marrietta Vans (1395-1476) and died 1485 of unspecified causes. He married Miss Vaux (1420-) 1444 JL in Scotland.
It was during the reign of James II of Scotland (1430-1460), that William Adair of Kinhilt married the daughter of Robert Vance of Barnborough. In 1445, they gave birth to a son whom they named Alexander, the name of three great Scottish kings of the past (although some records state that his name was William, after his father).
