William Baker the Emigrant was born 1626 in England and died 1677 Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Mary Eddington (1633-1655) 23 September 1651 in Massachusetts. He married Pilgrim Eddy (1634-) 22 April 1656 in Massachusetts.
William Baker was a early New England Settler living in Watertown, Boston and Plymouth Colony.
Biography
He was early at the colony in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was a sawyer by trade, and there is on record at Plymouth a contract he made January 7, 1632-33, with Richard Church to perform certain work. (If so he must have been born much earlier than 1629!)
He must have had property, for he was given formal leave to reside there November 5, 1638. He removed later to Boston, where he worked as a carpenter. He was admitted a freeman there July 28, 1651.
On 5 November 1638 a William Baker of Watertown was licensed to dwell in Plymouth Colony "provided he bring good testimony of his good conversation" (PCR 1:102)
On 5 April 1641 John Barnes leased a house and lands to William Baker, an inhabitant of Boston.
William Baker, Sr., died at Concord, Massachusetts, August 2, 1679. (Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County)
