Biography
William Ellery was born 31 October 1701 in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island, United States to Benjamin Ellery (1669-1746) and Abigail Wilkins (1678-1742) and died 15 March 1764 Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, United States of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Almy (1703-1783) 3 January 1722 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, United States.
He became a wealthy merchant in Newport, and in time served in a number of civic capacities. From 1738 to 1740 he served as a Newport Justice of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas and General Sessions of the Peace. He later served as an assistant and Deputy Governor of the colony.
