William Ellery was born 22 December 1727 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, United States to William Ellery (1701-1764) and Elizabeth Almy (1703-1783) and died 15 February 1820 Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, United States of unspecified causes. He married Anne Remington (1725-1764) 11 September 1749 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. He married Abigail Cary (1742-1793) 28 June 1767 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, United States.
He was a Founding Father of the United States, one of the 56 signers of the United States Declaration of Independence, and a signer of the Articles of Confederation as a representative of Rhode Island.
