William Goodhue was born circa 1615 in Kent, England to Nicholas Goodhue (1575-) and Mrs Jane Goodhue (1577-) and died 7 September 1680 Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Margery Watson (1617-1668) 1634 in Kent, England. He married Mary Webb (c1630-1680) 7 February 1670 in Ispwich, Essex County, Massachusetts. He married Bethia Grafton (c1630-1688) 26 July 1682 in Essex County, Massachusetts. He married Remember Fiske (1667-1702) 1690 in Essex County, Massachusetts.

Biography

William Goodhue was born in 1612/13, probably in Kent, England. William married in England to the widow Margery Watson of Deptford, Kent, England. William is said to have been a Weaver, Yeoman, and a Merchant. Margery was already the mother of 3 children, but this compiler has no other information about their earlier life.

Willliam & Margery Watson Goodhue emigrated to America in 1635, and settled in Ipswich MA, which became their home. William Goodhue became a “Proprietor” in 1635. William was made a “Freeman” on 7 Dec 1636. William & Margery became members of the 1st Congregational Church of Ipswich, and later William became a “deacon”, and was known as “Deacon William Goodhue”.

Deacon William & Margery Watson Goodhue had 3 children born to them , and reared in Ipswich MA. Deacon William bought the “Commonage” of John Newman in 1649, and owned other land. William worked in various civil capacities such as “Moderator”, “Selectman”, and “Representative” to the General Court.


On 24 Sep 1688, Deacon William summoned his son Joseph Goodhue from his home in Chebacco province of Ipswich, to live in Deacon William’s home in Ipswich MA, and to “act on his behalf”. Deacon William,then retired to live with his other son William in Chebacco Province of Ipswich MA. However, Deacon William finally remarried again to Remember Fisk of Wenham MA. They were married in Ipswich, MA.


Deacon William Goodhue died in Chebacco province of Ipswich MA in 1699/1700. His wife, Remember Fisk Goodhue survived Deacon William, and died on 16 Feb 1701/02.

1st Marriage: Margery Watson

William married in England (c1634) to the widow Margery Watson of Deptford, Kent, England. Margery was already the mother of 3 children, but this compiler has no other information about their earlier life. In 1635 they immigrated to Ipswich, Massachusetts where their children were born. Margery Watson Goodhue, wife of William, died in Ipswich MA on 28 Aug 1668; after perhaps 34 years of marriage.

2nd Marriage: Widow Webb

Widower Deacon William Goodhue remarried on 7 Feb 1669/70 to the widow Mary Webb at Ipswich MA. They had no children born to them. Mary Webb Goodhue died on 7 Sep 1680 after 10 years of marriage.

3rd Marriage: Widow Grafton

Deacon William again remarried on 26 Jul 1682 to Widow Bethia Grafton, a marriage that lasted 6 years until Bethia’s death on 6 Dec 1688.

4th Marriage: Remember Fiske

However, Deacon William finally remarried again to Remember Fisk of Wenham MA. They were married in Ipswich, MA. His wife, Remember Fisk Goodhue survived Deacon William, and died on 16 Feb 1701/02.
