Biography

William Jury was born 27 June 1831 in Kent, England, United Kingdom to Edward Jury (1807-1893) and Eliza Hayward (1812-1866) and died 12 October 1923 Mallala, South Australia, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Susan Adams Pederick (c1833-1856) 2 November 1854 in Gawler, South Australia, Australia. He married Mary Webster Wilkinson (c1838-1880) 1858 .

He arrived in South Australia in 1840 on the Bracken Moor with his parents.

Obituary

Mr. William Jury, an old and highly respected resident of the Mallala district, died last Friday evening at the residence of his eldest daughter (Mrs. Whitbread). He was born in County Kent, England, on June 27, 1831, and when nine years of age sailed for Australia with his parents in the ship Brankiemoor. A number of years was spent at Plympton and Peachy Belt. Subsequently Mr. Jury went to Mallala, and was engaged in farming for many years. Although he did not take a prominent part in public life he was a member of the Mallala District Council for several years. Mr. Jury was a widower for more than 40 years. Four sons and five daughters survive— Messrs. W. E. P. Jury (Murray Bridge), Henry Jury (Mallala), James and Thomas (Torrensville), and Mesdames E. A. Whitbread and G. W. Lindsay (Mallala), W. R. Lewis and C. Cooper (Berri), and H. Daddow (Boors Plains, Kadina). There are 47 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.
