Close of a Strenuous Career

Passed away at North Dandalup on the 9th inst., William Walter Boxsell.

Born at Berry, N.S.W. 57 years ago, his life had been full of vicissitudes and exciting adventure. Droving and seeking the precious metal in Northern Queensland and Western N.S.W., afterwards through Papua, boring on the oilfields of Java, Sumatra and Borneo, were but small items of an eventful career. He possessed a fund of knowledge, and was conversant with every phase of life in the Never Never and tropical regions. Brimful of anecdote, his was a charming and interesting personality. He had latterly decided to go into business at North Dandalup, and was resident there only about three weeks when the call came. Heart troubles hastened the end of a strenuous life.

About 13 years ago the deceased was married in this State to Miss Devine, of Perth, first settling on a farming property in the Great Southern district. He held the license of the Popanyinning Hotel, and afterwards purchased the freehold of the Pilbara Hotel at Port Hedland. He spent several years at the northern port. A man of commanding personality, 6 feet in height and 20-stone weight, he was a well-known and popular identity of the latter town. Guiltless of refusing any request for assistance, his life has been summed up by one writer truthfully as "a man with a big heart and a generous outlook on life." Hs leaves a widow and three children to whom the sympathy of all is extended.
