William Ward was born 6 March 1603 in Willingham, Yorkshire, England to Johannes Edward Warde (1560-1603) and Maria Hatton (1573-1670) and died 10 August 1687 Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Story Hall (1613-1700) 1625 in England.

Immigration to America
The first mention of William Ward in America appears in 1639 in the land division records for Sudbury MA. Family traditions holds that he came from Yorkshire or Derbyshire.
1656 Marlborough Petition
In 1656 he was with a group of 14 men that petitioned to create the new village of Marlborough MA.
King Phillip's War 1675
William Ward, in common with others, endured great hardships and sustained great losses by Indian hostilities; more especially in the time of King Phillip's Ware (1675-76) when his buildings were fired, his cattle destroyed, and one of his sons slain by the enemy.
Marriage & Family
There is also much dispute over the identity of his wife that came across the ocean with and bore his children. Per her gravestone in Marlborough.
"Here lyes the body of Elizabeth Ward, the servant of the Lord - deceased in 87 year of her age, Dec. ye 9, in the year of our Lord 1700."
