Sir William de Lindsay of Ercildum and Crawford, Baron of Luffness, Justicar of Scotland was born circa 1148 and died circa 1200 of unspecified causes. He married Aleanore de Limesay (-1200) .
"William de Lindsay, Lord of Ercildown and Crawford. He was one of the Magnates Scotia, temp. Malcolm IV., and William the Lion. Between 1189 and 1199 he held the office of high judiciary of the Lothians. Me m. The Princess Marjory[1], sister of Malcolm IV. and William the Lion, and daughter of David, Price of Scotland, son and heir of King David I., by Adele de Warren, who was thus descended from the kings of Scotland, the Saxon kings of England, William the Conquerer, and the Capetian kings of France. - I. David, (Sir) of Crawford, whose male line became extinct. His heir-general, Sir Robert de Pinkney, was in 1292, one of the claimants of the Scottish Crown, through his ancestress, Princess Marjory.
- II. Walter (Sir), of Lamberton. His great grandson, Sir William Lindsay m. another lady of the royal blood, Ada Baliol, sister of John Baliol, King of Scotland, and their dau. and heir, Christina Lindsay, carried the right of representation of the ancient Scottish kings and the Saxon kings of England, through the great French family of De Coucy. Into the house of Bourbon, and their male heir H.R.H. the Duke of Bordeaux.
