Wilson Lumpkin (January 14, 1783 - December 28, 1870) was an American lawyer and politican who served as a Congressman, Governor and United States Senator from Georgia.
Family[]
Lumpkin was born near Dan River, Pittsylvania County, Virginia and settled with his family in Oglethorpe County, Georgia eventually settling in the town of Lexington. He was the son of John Robert Lumpkin (c1762-1834) and Lucy Elizabeth Hopson (1764-1843). His brother was the first Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court Justice Joseph Henry Lumpkin (1799-1867). His nephew John Henry Lumpkin (1812-1860) was a U.S. Representative from Georgia and his grandson, Middleton Pope Barrow (1839-1903), also served in the U.S. Senate.
