Yaropolk Romanovich (about 1151/1156 [1] - after 1180 [1]) - Prince of Tripolye (1177), Prince of Smolensk (1172-1174, 1175, 1175-1177 ). He is the eldest son of Roman Rostislavich of Kiev
Biography
Yaropolk reigned in Smolensk during his father's reign in Kiev. The first time when Andrei Yurievich of Bogolyubovo was dissatisfied with the outreach in Kiev of Vladimir Mstislavich occurred after the death of his brother Gleb, Andrei gave the reign of Kiev to Roman Rostislavich of Kiev. Roman, owning the throne of Smolensk throne and neighboring Andrei'd strong principality, was more accommodating than the younger Rostislavichi, who owned the land in the Grand Principality of Kiev. After the unsuccessful campaign organized by Andrei against Kiev, Yaroslav Izyaslavich became Grand Prince of Kiev, and Roman returned to Smolensk.
After the departure of Yaroslav Izyaslavich from Kiev, after Andrei's death, Roman took over the reign of Kiev again, leaving Yaropolk in Smolensk. The people of Smolensk preferred the reign of the younger Mstislav Romanovich, who chose not to enter into conflict with his brother and returned the throne to Yaropolk. In 1177, after the defeat by the Polovtsians, Svyatoslav Vsevolodovich of Chernigov demanded that Davyd Rostislavich should be deprived of his estate as the culprit of the defeat. Roman did not agree and was forced to cede the throne of Kiev to Svyatoslav and to return to Smolensk.
