Biography
Yuri Lugvenovich (c1396-1460) - Appanage Prince of Mstislavl (1431-1442, 1445-1460), Prince of Novgorod-Seversky (1432-1440), founder of the princely Mstislavsky family . The son of the Prince of Mstislavl Simeon Lengvenis from his first marriage with Maria Dmitriyevna, daughter of the Grand Prince of Moscow Dmitri Donskoy
Biography
His father, Lugvania, married his mother Maria Dmitriyevna on June 14, 1394, she died in 1399. Consequently, Yuri was born between 1395-1399 years. It is assumed that in his youth he commanded the Smolensk regiment in the Battle of Grunwaldin 1410 .
In 1431, after his father's death, he inherited the Principality of Mstislavl. Acting as Svidrigailo Olgerdovichp 's ally in the struggle for the throne of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with Sigismund Keistutovich , he was taken prisoner in the battle of Oshmyany, then fled from Lithuania, settling for reign in Veliky Novgorod in 1432 .
In 1435, together with Svidrigailo, he was defeated in the Battle of Wilkomierz from Sigismund, having fled from the battlefield to Polotsk.
In 1438, he raided the Livonian possessions. In 1440, he was expelled from the Novgorod possessions, tried to return the Mstislav land, was captured in Troki by Sigismund, but was soon released, briefly returned to Novgorod. After the death of Sigismund returned to Lithuania.
Casimir IV was granted to him by Mstislavl and Krichev . During the Smolenskaya zamyatni , the rebels invited Yuri Semenovich to reign. In 1441, as a result of the Smolensk uprising, Polotsk, Vitebsk and Smolensk went under his control. In 1442, after the campaign of Casimir, Smolensk capitulated and the prince fled to Moscow.
In 1444, Yuri Semyonovich arrived in Novgorod, but not having received the reign, he returned to Lithuania, having received, in 1445, from Casimir Mstislavl. In 1458, at the request of the Novgorodians, he arrived "king's son" in the Novgorod suburbs - Rousse, Ladoga, Oreshek, Yam, and half of Koporye.
In 1459, as a result of Moscow's displeasure over the reign of the Lithuanian prince in Novgorodchin, he was forced to return to ON. In 1460 he died in Mstislavl.
